Maria Agnesi (1718-1799) was an Italian mathematician, philosopher, theologian, and humanitarian. She was the first woman to write a handbook of mathematics and the second to be appointed as a professor at a university. She fluently spoke 7 languages, and devoted the later half of her life to serving the poor and sick.
